Kelvin Tan: Private Equity, Singapore
Kelvin has over 30 years of general management, investment management, and private equity experience in both the public and private sectors in Singapore.
Kelvin is the Director of Investments at Singapore-based Makara Capital, a global financial services company that was founded in 2005. Makara Capital specializes in fund management, private equity as well as structuring and financing, with a core focus on innovation, infrastructure and energy.
Kelvin is a member of the Board of Directors of IREIT Global, which is the first SGX-listed REIT established with the investment strategy of principally investing in a portfolio of income-producing real estate in Europe.
Kelvin was the President of AETOS Security Management Pte Ltd from 2004 to 2008. Before heading AETOS, Kelvin was the Global Head of Business Development and concurrently the CEO of its India business unit at PSA International Ltd, a leading global port groups, with investments in 29 port projects in 17 countries across Asia, Europe and the Americas.
From 1996 to 2003, Kelvin was co-head of the private equity funds unit making PE investments with Temasek Holdings Pte Ltd, the Singapore Government’s Sovereign Wealth Fund.
Kelvin was a Local Merit Scholar (Police Service) and graduated with a Bachelor of Accountancy (First Class Honors) degree from the National University of Singapore in 1987. He also obtained a Master of Business Administration degree from the same university in 1997 and attended the Program for Management Development at the Harvard Business School in 1999.
Kelvin also sits on the Board of public listed companies such as Viking Offshore and Marine Ltd, Unusual Limited, Transcorp Holdings Limited, and Sabana REIT, the first Shariah compliant REIT listed on the SGX.
Kelvin is a Fellow and Council Member of the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants, a member of the Singapore Institute of Directors, as well as the Institute of Management Consultants (Singapore). He is also an Adjunct Associate Professor with the National University of Singapore Business School.
